Regina Reviews: Crave-ing a Good Meal?

Every time I post a review - I get a bunch of comments going 'ZING' or 'OUCH'. I went back and re-read my reviews, and while at least one of them was purposefully snarky - for the others, I was just trying to be honest! While Regina's food scene is developing and progressing rapidly, there are still a number of restaurants middling along by being 'not actively awful'. But for me - going out for a meal is a luxury. As food prices continue to rise, I firmly believe that restaurants should deliver on their services. If I'm paying $6 for a bowl of pho, I'm not going to be  obnoxiously picky - however, if it's a $25  plate of pasta and it tastes like No Name spaghetti and Prego, then I'm going to be a little more... discerning. Don't get me wrong - I love No Name spaghetti and Prego - just not paying $25 for it.

And now - with that lengthy caveat over with, what are my  thoughts and feelings on Crave?

Chevre, Chive and Garlic-Scallion Fritters

Warm, pillowy fritters, waiting to be popped in your maw.
Ahhh summer. It has gone the way of the dinosaur. At least for another year. We were lucky enough here to have a glorious fall, replete with 30 degree days and lots and lots of sunshine. This was definitely excellent, but it's made me a bit winter-shy.

And yup. Late October and it's snowing. Well not right now, but it was.

1 Bowl, 13 Cloves - Raw and Roasted Garlic Cold and Flu-Time Soup

Creameh, creameh garlic soup. A taste of nature, and good for the ol'
immune system. Drizzled lightly with balsamic reduction and sriarcha.
Because, well, sriracha.
Fall has fallen...? and with it I seem to have acquired a cold. More accurately, My sister acquired a cold, who passed it on to me, who passed it on to Taylor.., who I think has passed it back to me. Is it possible to have the same cold twice in two weeks? Ugh.

Yallah! Black Bean Hummus with Roasted Spices and Fresh Herbs

My garden parsley and chilies! Look at the sunshine! Wahoo!

Wahoo indeed. A few weeks ago I was lamenting the loss of summer, and bemoaning the onset of winter. I love winter, but the past few in Saskatchewan have been... well... it's been -40something for weeks on end. And lasted until May. So as much as I love all our wonderful seasons in Canada, I am happy that summer has lingered well into September.

I had covered my tomatoes and chili plants with blankets to protect them from the frost, and it looks like it worked, as my chilies are still kicking and growing like mad. I need to can or dry them soon!

Peanut Butter Wings (no really).

Confession time.

My favourite food in all the whole wide world? Peanut-anything. Sweet peanut things, savoury peanut things (hello thai food), raw peanuts, peanut butter. You name it. Never met a peanut I didn't like. They can put that on my tombstone if they still have tombstones in whatever post-apocalyptic world we're living in in 20wheneverIdie...
